Book Keycamp camping holidays in Aquitaine.
Book Eurocamp camping holidays in Aquitaine. Aquitaine, often spelt Acquitaine by the British, stretches from the mouth of
the mighty Gironde river where it flows into the Atlantic north of Bordeaux down
to the Spanish border south of Biarritz. It's a region with something for
everyone. The coast is mainly flat and backs onto the pine forests of Les Landes,
where the trees give welcome shade from the southern sun. The largely flat
forest is great for walking and cycling.
Fringing the wide sandy beaches are
impressive sand-dunes, including the largest sand-dune in Europe, the Dune du
Pilat near Arcachon. The coastal towns of Arcachon, Lacanau-Océan and Capbreton,
amongst others, serve the needs of the many holiday-makers.
Bordeaux in the North is well known as the centre for the French wine
industry, and the countryside around offers many opportunities for wine-tasting.
Bordeaux is a busy historic city and well worth a day trip. Further south
Biarritz enjoys a reputation as a chic resort, and although this is still true
to an extent, it has also become a mecca for surfers trying to catch the
excellent Atlantic rollers for which the region is famous. Just before reaching
Spain the old town of Bayonne is steeped in history, and St Jean de Luz is a
pretty harbour town.
As well as their campsites in Aquitaine Keycamp also offer 3 sites around the
attractive seaside town of Royan, just north of the Gironde and actually in
Poitou-Charente, whilst Eurocamp has 2 sites here.
Gascony is not difficult to reach especially if you take one of the
Brittany Ferries crossings. It's a 5 and a half hour drive (not
including stops) from St Malo, or about an extra hour from Caen. Check the route
on our
route planner where you can also click to book an
overnight
hotel stop.
