The French Cote d'Azur is one of the best places anywhere for a camping holiday.
The climate is fantastic, with the summer heat being moderated by refreshing sea
breezes. The coastline is not only spectacular, comprising pine clad headlands,
hidden coves and wide stretches of golden sand, but the sea is warm and the swimming
is safe. Tourists have been coming to these parts for over 200 years, so the locals
know how to cater for your needs, with every type of activity on offer, on land
and sea.
Strung along the coast are the fabulous resorts of Nice, Cannes and Monte Carlo.
Nice is much more than just a smart resort, with a fascinating old town and a bustling
market, as well as countless bars and restaurants. Cannes might be expensive close
to the centre and the famous Croisiere, but its beaches extend for miles on either
side of the town. Monte Carlo is worth a trip to see the Castle and to marvel at
the expensive yachts moored in the harbour. Or there are smaller towns such as charming
Menton close to Italy, or Antibes with its faded grandeur.
Inland you'll find a landscape bathed in sunlight and awash with the scents of
pines and lavender that have been distilled into the perfumes for which the region
is famous. Visit the perfume capital of Grasse to sample these extravagances. Or
there are some great galleries and museums honouring the many artists who have found
the light here irresistible. Try the Fondation Maeght in the delightful village
of St-Paul-de-Vence, or the Picasso Museum in Antibes.
You can fly to the Cote d'Azur/Nice airport. If you do, check out the great rates
on offer from our car hire partners
Auto Europe and
Argus Car Rental. Or if you drive
search for an overnight stop on our
hotel search,
featuring literally thousands of hotels in France. The journey from Calais takes
about 10 hours not counting stops.
